DP Ojha Foundation
Committed to uplifting lives and building stronger communities.
Who We Are
DP Ojha Foundation is a not-for-profit organization based in Patna, Bihar.
We aim to provide, promote, or support activities of welfare, education, research, community development, medical care, rural development, cultural understanding, vocational training, technical services, and assistance to other organizations, either directly or in partnership with other institutions and organizations.

Founding Idea
DP Ojha Foundation is rooted in a belief shared across traditions: that steady effort, guided by duty and reason, builds a just society. We value work done with care and responsibility, without attachment to personal gain.
Founded by Shri D. P. Ojha’s children and their family members, this Foundation reflects a lived respect for learning that is practical, ethical, and grounded in place. We believe technology should extend human capability, not replace wisdom; tradition should inform progress, not resist it; and knowledge should be wide-ranging and shared.
By collaborating with grassroots organizations in education, culture, and law, we support patient, long-term work that strengthens communities from within.

Shri Dhruva Prasad Ojha was born in February 1944 in the village of Kumhaila in Saran district, Bihar, where he also spent his early years.
From a young age, he displayed notable academic promise. Scholarships enabled his schooling and higher education. He completed his matriculation in the First Division from S.N. High School, Rampur Atauli, Saran, Bihar, in March 1958. Driven by a desire to pursue the sciences, he moved to Chhapra for his ISc from Rajendra College in 1962, and then to Muzaffarpur, where he completed his B.Sc. (H) and M.Sc. in Physics from L.S. College in 1964. After brief teaching assignments as a lecturer at TNB College, Bhagalpur, and Science College, Patna, he cleared the UPSC examination in 1966 and joined the Indian Police Service on 16 July 1967.
Serving in his home state of Bihar, Shri D. P. Ojha worked across numerous districts and departments, including extended tenures in the Cabinet Vigilance Department. After thirty-six years of service, he rose to lead the Bihar Police and retired as the head of the department in 2003. Throughout his career, his service earned him wide respect and several accolades from the public, colleagues, and sometimes, the government of the day. His direct manner, coupled with a sharp and disciplined intellect shaped by science, literature, and law, often placed him in conflict with entrenched power centers within and outside government. He welcomed these challenges and consistently stood by truth and the rule of law.
At home, his life centred on his wife and children, while he also remained deeply committed to his extended family. He instilled in his children a strong respect for education and social justice. Shri Ojha spent the final two decades of his life in Anisabad, Patna, surrounded by family and grandchildren. He passed away after a short illness on 6 December 2024.
His memory—and the guidance he offered through both words and example—continues to live on among his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched.
